For me, there is nothing like the coming of crisp fall air and stylish glossy fashion magazines to make me want to clean. You are thinking "WHAT? WHY?" and "what is the correlation there?" Well I will tell you. Fall is my favorite season ever, especially here in the PNW. I love the weather, crisp in the morning, warm during the day and crisp and clear at night and if it rains, who cares...I am tired of watering my flowers anyhow. It is just a nice excuse to make a yummy dinner in the crockpot and curl up with a good book so I can enjoy the smell of my impending feast. I love the fashion! I am not a big shorts and tank top kinda gal...they just aren't that glamorous. There is just something about sweaters and tights and pumps that just get my heart pumping. The fabrics and textures and delish as well as the color palette. It just makes me so damn happy.
Well, for to me enjoy any of this wonderment that is a Pacific Northwest Fall, I need things clean. A cluttery house is not a cozy house even with a crockpot full of goodness and a page turner of a novel. I want spic and span; I want to know what I have. Unlike most people who do spring cleaning...I do fall cleaning. I clean out all of my drawers, cabinets, and closets and throw out EVERYTHING I don't need.
Such was the task at hand yesterday. I started with the basics, dishes, vacuuming, laundry and what not but then I proceeded to go deeper. I have two hall closets that have tons of space. I get rushed and usually start cramming things into these closets just for the sake of keeping the area you see clean. So my "catch all" closet was the biggest chore of them all. It is my axillary pantry, liquor cabinet, gift closet, china cabinet, and space to store anything I bulk in bulk such as toothpaste and deodorant or what ever. There was so much stuff crammed in there I had no idea what I even had. I found that I do not need to buy deodorant for quite sometime as I seemed to have stocked up at some point.
I moved on into my master bath and OH MY FREAKING GOD!!! I had Victoria Secret body lotions from like, 1999 that I had maybe used once or twice, hair accessories fit for a junior high school cheerleader, and all kinds of other potions and lotions that I have bought because they promised miracles and didn't do squat. I threw it all away (with the exception of a couple of hair things that my cousin Kate might enjoy...I liked them to much to destine them to a life in a garbage heap).
The day continued on this way, me throwing out receipts, and papers, and pens with dried up ink and I was really overwhelmed my the amount of shit I had accumulated. Especially considering that I just went through this whole operation in the spring...
